Coronavirus leads to infertility? Chinese doctors are scared of social media

Today on the website of the government of Hubei province there was a document that urged all men who recover from COVID-19, to get tested for infertility. The ad quickly started to spread on Chinese social networks, and within hours it was removed from the site.

the Problem is that the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 are genetically similar with one of the virus that causes “severe acute respiratory syndrome”. Infection they resulted in tissue damage, inflammatory processes in the testicles and threatened to infertility in the future.

SARS-CoV-2 attacks the same receptor ACE2. So, theoretically, a new pathogen can also lead to diseases of the reproductive system in men. However, at the moment, evidence that the new coronavirus type directly affects male fertility, scientists are not.

By the way, the same receptor is not only cells of the lung and testicles. Does this mean that the disease can cause tissue damage, small intestine, kidneys, heart and thyroid gland, scientists also don’t know yet for sure.

If, however, in subsequent studies, such a relationship is confirmed, it will mean that infection of SARS-CoV-2 affects the production of sperm and sex hormones, and that means not only the ability to conceive children, but also on the sexual function of men.

let’s Add that, initially, a message appeared on the website of the Center for reproductive medicine, Tongji Medical College (Tongji Medical College). 12 Mar repost it appeared on the website of the government of Hubei province, but later it was removed.
