FC Barcelona want Robert Lewandowski – the club has now made that clear. Now the long list of planned departures that is supposed to finance the striker coup is known – including an absolute top star.

Goodbye, you five: FC Barcelona want Robert Lewandowski – but (still) don’t have the money for the Pole. In order to generate it, the Catalans want to thin out their squad. According to “Mundo Deportivo”, Frenkie de Jong, Martin Braithwaite, Samuel Umtiti, Oscar Mingueza and Riqui Puig are to leave the club in the summer. The five could bring the club a joint fee of almost 100 million euros – and save a few million in salaries.

But is that enough? It is still unclear whether the Catalans will actually achieve enough transfer income with this cross-off list to sign superstar Lewandowski. That probably depends on the transfer fee that the club can collect for de Jong. Most recently, there was a move to Manchester United – after all, the youngster’s former coach, Erik ten Hag, has just taken over the top job there.

Sad goodbyes: With regard to de Jong’s possible departure, Barcelona coach Xavi says: “Again, it’s all about the economic situation. For me he is a top player who can mark an era. But unfortunately it’s about the money.”
