Before the trip to Hersonissos, the General Director of the Bolshoi theatre Vladimir urin answered questions “RG”.
For the Bolshoi speech in Crimea – the end of the season or the start of a new theatre year?
Vladimir urin: We would like to consider this tour the beginning of our new season. All the months spent theatre in quarantine, we were waiting for the moment when we begin to work. When we informed the staff that need to leave leave two weeks earlier (the release in the theater for all employees and creative teams ends July 26-27) to get in shape, prepare for the trip, there was not one person who would Express discontent. People are happy that there is an opportunity to work. Although, unfortunately, this problem is called “coronavirus”, yet has not disappeared.
But none of the artists refused to participate in the tour for fear of Contracting?
Vladimir urin: No. But if such a person was, we would certainly have gone to meet him. Because I understand that people who have, maybe, something happened to close, and they really are faced with this disease, can be scared. Today we should be especially sensitive to each other and to understand: we have to work in a new challenging environment.
At the festival in Chersonesos Bolshoi theatre is only one program that combines ballet and Opera. This decision was taken in connection with the coronavirus?
Vladimir urin: No. It has long been the decision – to the Bolshoi theatre have been submitted to and Opera, and ballet. And I think that the conditions for an open-air similar form of one-act performances are very suitable. Because when large open areas are played large-scale, long plays, then, as a rule, there is a technical need to adapt, simplify. Therefore, in discussing the options, we decided that the Opera company will present in the format of the gala concert in the first part of the evening, and then will show the ballet “Carmen-Suite”. While in Chersonesos are all our Pervatsch who have engaged in “Carmen-Suite”: Svetlana Zakharova, Denis Rodkin, Katya Krysanova, Mikhail Lobukhin, Igor Tsvirko. Go and leading Opera soloists – Igor golovatenco, Anna Aglatova, Anna Nechaeva, Dinara Alieva. Goes our promising youth. Quite personable and, from my point of view, the qualitative composition.
But when you go to the official website and see the posters instead of the laconic phrase “no Information available”, it becomes somehow not on itself…
Vladimir urin: Plans at the Bolshoi theatre are more than enough. We will soon introduce them all. But will not this year to carry out their official presentation, as a traditional gathering of troupe. I think in this situation, to risk once again it wasn’t really right. However, every theatre is addressing the issue for yourself individually.
Financial losses of the Bolshoi theatre will lead to a reduction in the team?
Vladimir urin: I want everyone to understand that the second half of March until end of July only due to a cancellation, the theatre received less from the sale of tickets 850 million rubles. And that’s not counting the losses from the failed tour in the U.S., Japan and Europe, and if we count all the damage will go beyond the limit of one billion rubles. But, first, all the funding from the state saved in full. Second, the theatre continues to support the sponsors – none of them turned away. So we try to keep the salary of the people and not the planned “emergency” layoffs.
A theater talking about the impossibility of literally follow the requirements of the CPS. That, in addition to the ticket purchase will now require more from a potential viewer to get to the Bolshoi theater?
Vladimir urin: In the coming days we hope to get clarification and explanation from the CPS, with which we have constantly is a normal business conversation as relative to the team’s work – rehearsal process, conditions of carrying out of performances, and all that concerns the new rules to the public. In any case, the theater is very interested in the fact that to have the opportunity to purchase a modern imaging, and air disinfection system, which in our country is not that easy to get.
the new season the theater will “catch up with the past”, featuring the premiere did not take place, or go forward without looking back?
Vladimir urin: We just have to provide the public with the promised performances. This question is not only creative, but also organizational and financial. After all, when we are talking about the play that is running in production, and it spent little money, and eighty percent of it is already done, we even from a legal point of view, do not have the right not to release him. So something from the failed second half of the season we will show in the new season or the year after. The theater will open all three of his sites – historical, and a new chamber scene. And the premiere, scheduled for the coming season, the same as in previous years. With a single feature: we have released from the Premier September, October, November and December. Because it will be recovery period, and we must understand that it can be every. But the answers to all the questions will just work.
