Cambodia demands of tourists coming to the Kingdom, to make a Deposit in the amount of three thousand dollars. The money will be used to cover the costs of testing and treatment, if guests get sick with coronavirus. The new rule came into force from 15 June, the newspaper the Phom Penh Post.
in addition, all visiting foreigners are required to have health insurance with cover not less than 50 thousand dollars.
As stated by the Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun sen, his government, like other countries, we have to charge for treatment because “we can’t afford to treat foreigners for free”. The official representative of the government of Cambodia Fay Sifang also noted that “disease usually brought to us from abroad, and our resources are enough only for our citizens.”
At present, Cambodia has already spent one billion dollars to combat coronavirus. Among the 128 cases recorded in the Kingdom, 71 patients were foreigners, but they were cured for free. To treat tourists for free ordered in early spring, Prime Minister Hun sen, however, in the early summer the decision was reversed because the Kingdom needed the money to rebuild our own economy.
