Hertha BSC – Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund hopes to make amends quickly after the embarrassing last-minute knockout against Werder Bremen. In the game on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky) at Hertha BSC, the Bundesliga soccer club wants to give a sporting answer to the question of a lack of mentality that has arisen again.

“We have to show a reaction in Berlin in order to continue where we want to be,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl on Thursday. In the 2:3 draw against Bremen last weekend, BVB was the first team in Bundesliga history to concede three goals from the 89th minute and thus lost a 2:0 lead.

Donyell Malen is not yet an option for the game in Berlin. According to coach Edin Terzic, the Dutch attacker, who already had to sit out against Bremen, has “torn a small hamstring” and will therefore miss his team for another “seven to ten days”. On the other hand, the recently injured Mats Hummels, Karim Adeyemi and Nico Schlotterbeck are back in training.

Whether Mahmoud Dahoud, who suffered a shoulder injury and was substituted against Bremen, is again an option for the starting XI is to be decided in the coming units. If he fails, the newcomer Salih Özcan, who has recovered from a stubborn muscle bruise, could move into the starting eleven for the first time.

Kehl and Terzic hope that Anthony Modeste, who has been signed from Cologne, will be better involved in the BVB game in Berlin after two weak games so far. Kehl defended the goalscorer against criticism: “We know that a striker is measured by goals and ultimately has to function quickly. That’s Tony’s idea too. But I would like to ask for a little patience so that after two weeks a player in this category is not called a bad buy.”
