Nokia has banned the sale of Oppo and OnePlus smartphones in Germany. The reason for this is a patent dispute. Things could also get tight for the RealMe and Vivo brands.

As previously reported, Oppo had lost a lawsuit against Nokia in Germany. That was before the Mannheim district court. Further lawsuits were pending in other German courts, including the Munich 1 District Court.

Now the Munich court has agreed with Nokia on Friday. It is about patents related to 4G (LTE) and 5G Standard Essential Patents (SEPs). These are probably being used without permission by Oppo, which prompted Nokia to sue.

The second successful lawsuit is now having a dramatic impact on Oppo in Germany. In fact, there is now a ban on the sale of Oppo smartphones and devices from the sister company OnePlus. And really, on both German sides of the manufacturers you can currently no longer buy smartphones.

Oppo has almost completely emptied its page. This raises the question of whether Oppo is now on the brink of collapse in Germany. The “WirtschaftsWoche” now reports that Oppo will leave the German market. At Oppo Germany, nothing is known about a withdrawal:

“Apart from suspending the sale and marketing of certain products, Oppo will continue operations in Germany”- – Oppo Germany

For the time being, Oppo will stop its marketing activities in Germany, but there can be no question of a complete withdrawal from Germany. It remains to be seen whether the manufacturers will only sell products from the segments outside the smartphone sector in the future.

It will also be exciting to see how the RealMe and Vivo brands will continue. Like Oppo and OnePlus, these belong to the BKK Group and accordingly also use Nokia’s 5G licenses for their devices.

Should Nokia be able to assert itself in the patent dispute in court in the future, it cannot be ruled out that RealMe and Vivo will also have to withdraw at least partially from the German market in the future.
