Moldovan farmers began to block roads of the Republic, demanding to increase the state support of the agricultural sector, which suffered from severe drought. This was reported by press Secretary of the General Commissariat of police of the Republican Marian Betivu.

According to police, the protest covers about ten villages in different parts of the country.

At the moment only blocked the route towards the town of Kaushany. On the road Hincesti was unlocked — quotes Betivu TASS.

From September 2019 to April 2020 drought has caused significant damage to the grain. Of the 415 thousand hectares of crops on nearly 200 thousand suffered more than 60%. Damage is estimated at about 900 million lei (€45 million).

Earlier, Prime Minister of the Republic ion chicu has decided to double the financial assistance to farmers who have suffered crops of wheat, barley and canola. Compensation for each hectare will be about thousand lei (€50). The budget for this purpose is planned the order of 350 million lei (€17.5 million).

Nevertheless, farmers of these measures is considered insufficient. They require to increase this by at least three times, and also to declare a state of emergency in agriculture, to avoid fines for overdue loans and tax holidays.
