Historical film-drama (1966) is divided into eight short stories-episodes. Events from the life of the famous icon painter convey the realistic atmosphere of Russia of the XV century. Watching princely strife, the Tatar raids, famine and pestilence, Rublev begins to doubt the correctness of interpretations of the faith, and that his icons to the right people.

Andrei Tarkovsky was born April 4, 1932 in zavrazhe village of Ivanovo Industrial region (now the Kostroma oblast). In 1935 the father of Tarkovsky left the family. In the future, the Director will reflect children’s experiences in the film “the Mirror”: the father’s leaving, a mother with two children, the evacuation during the war and the difficulties of everyday life. In seventh grade, Tarkovsky enrolled at the Moscow art school of memory of 1905, where he studied painting. In 1951-1952 he studied at the Arabic Department of the Moscow Institute of Oriental studies.
