Scientists have made a unique discovery in France.

During the Paleolithic, the ancient people bury the dead in the dens of bears, showed the study of the famous cave of Cussac, Cantal, France.

In the new study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers conducted a detailed analysis of the bones of Cussac, Cantal, using 3D rendering. He showed that in the cave there are two groups of remains. The first is the skeleton of a young man buried in the place which once was a bear den, as well as fragmentary remains of at least two other individuals scattered in two dens. The second group is sorted, the bones of two adults and a teenager in the recesses along the wall.

For the culture of Gravette was typical to leave the body on the floor of the cave. But in the cave of Cussac, Cantal, they are hidden in niches or dens unusually deep and are accompanied by cave paintings. In addition, with the bones performed some manipulations: they are sorted or separated skull. According to scientists, is a unique example of funerary rituals hunter-gatherers upper Paleolithic.
