After the federal government took control of the troubled gas company Uniper last week, Economics Minister Robert Habeck apparently had doubts about the gas levy. This is reported by the ARD.

According to information from ARD, Habeck said at an internal meeting of the Greens that the gas levy should probably be replaced if Uniper were nationalized. Habeck’s suggestion: state aid instead of gas surcharge.

In the event of nationalization, Habeck would also have doubts about the legal basis for the gas levy, it said.

The gas surcharge is intended to save companies that have gotten into trouble as a result of the gas crisis. As a result, a surcharge of 2.419 cents per kilowatt hour is added to the gas price. How much extra cost does that mean?
