Coach vortex in the Bundesliga: Adi Hütter stops in Mönchengladbach, Markus Weinzierl leaves FC Augsburg. Both coaches announced their departure on TV – Weinzierl had not even informed the club beforehand.

The Adi Hütter era is over after just one year at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Immediately after the 5-1 win against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday, the club and the coach announced their separation.

It was mutually agreed to go their separate ways. Hütter still had a contract in Gladbach until June 30, 2024. “We agree that this decision is the right one for both sides,” said sporting director Roland Virkus.

“Our task now is to draw the conclusions from the processing of the season and to initiate the appropriate measures in order to prepare for the new season in a new constellation at the end of June,” said Max Eberl’s successor .

Hütter had just announced his departure from Sky. “I want to put all speculation aside. After many intensive, good, respectful discussions, we mutually agreed that we would go our separate ways. Today was my last game here at Borussia Mönchengladbach,” said the 52-year-old.

The two assistant coaches Christian Peintinger and Armin Reutershahn will also no longer work for Borussia.

After their sports director Eberl in January, the Gladbachers have now also lost the head coach brought in by Eberl. For Hütter, the club had paid 7.5 million euros to Eintracht Frankfurt. Hütter had a difficult time in Mönchengladbach right from the start and after the Eberl farewell also lost his mentor in the club. Recently, the relationship between the Austrian and the team is said to have been heavily burdened.

Coach Markus Weinzierl is also breaking up and leaving FC Augsburg. The coach of the Bundesliga soccer club announced this decision after the last Bundesliga game against SpVgg Greuther Fürth (2-1) on the Sky TV channel. That was his “last game”, said the 47-year-old on Saturday. For him it was the “right decision”.

Weinzierl informed the team of his move shortly after the final whistle. Players should be the first to know. Weinzierl pointed out that there had been no talks with the club about his future.

When asked if he had already informed manager Stefan Reuter, Weinzierl said: “No, but he will already notice that.” The coach showed clear cracks in the relationship. “It wasn’t planned that way,” said Weinzierl. “My heart hurts too.” He would have liked to have stayed in Augsburg for a long time.

You have to “put everything to the test” and also “question every position”, Weinzierl announced on Thursday. There have been no talks about extending his contract “up to now”. In the “next week” Weinzierl and FC Augsburg wanted to talk about the future.

“I also have one or two questions that are then decisive,” said Weinzierl and gave examples: “What does the club want to achieve? What are the goals? What are the requirements?” Playing constantly against relegation is not enough for the Straubinger.

“It is clear that you want more. That it is always the task to finish above your budget, above your means,” explained Weinzierl, who has been in charge of FC Augsburg since April 2021 in his second term. And even during his first time the relationship with Reuter was not without problems.
