In Italy, underwater archaeologists raised from the bottom of the Mediterranean anchor of the Roman-Hellenistic period, on which was depicted the symbol of the goddess Aphrodite, patron of sailors.

As reported by Agi Agenzia Italia, ancient anchor on the seabed was found by the Sicilian Manager of the diving centre Marcello Basile. The relic was at a depth of about 19 meters.

Local authorities have launched underwater excavations, for participation in which invited professional archaeologists from research organizations Soprintendenza del Mare.

They raised the anchor from the bottom and sent him to Palermo, where he studied under laboratory conditions. A feature of this artifact is engraved Dolphin symbol, which is identified with Aphrodite.

It is widely known as the Greek goddess of love and beauty. However, Aphrodite is also considered the patroness of sailors.
