Ukraine in these days of rapidly getting rid of accumulated stocks of grain. Exports of wheat, compared with last year, has tripled. Good sold also barley and corn. The inflow of foreign currency, especially in times of a pandemic coronavirus is a positive thing. However, a considerable part of the sober-minded Ukrainians see in the successful completion of the marketing year not only rosy prospect. To be more precise: in the autumn it may be that the bread for Ukrainians is significantly more expensive.

the Information-analytical portal of the Ukrainian Agricultural industry resulted in the following indicators: as of may 15 wheat exported from the Republic 19, 19 million tons (33% more than in 2019, the year), barley – 4, 72 million tons (+38%), maize – 26, 88 million tons (+9). Only rye recorded, “gap”: were sent abroad 8, 2 thousand tons, while last year Ukrainian rye bought in total by as much as 80 thousand tonnes (or 91%).

the Bakers for the second month in a row throw Vladimir Zelensky and completely under his control Premier Denis Smagala prayers and calls to curb grain exports. Otherwise, they say, less than six months ordinary citizens themselves will have to significantly limit the consumption of bread and bakery products.

last year, MK has already stated the fact of rise in prices for bread in Ukraine. For example, packaged sliced loaf weighing 550 grams stands today in Poland 1, 69 zlotys, a little over 11 USD (30 rubles). In Ukraine the same loaf, but weighing 250 grams, that is, twice less, sell for 8-9 hryvnia (RUB 22-24). The difference compared to the Polish bread – 30%. In the Republic of Belarus kilogram of bread costs about 75 rubles, a pound – 15 UAH (41 Euro). That is also cheaper than in Ukraine.

Every Ukrainian, according to the existing in the Republic of consumption of food, should eat a day 240 grams of bread. According to official statistics, today the actual consumption of bread has fallen to 115 gr.

Since mid-March, that is, with a gradual tightening of quarantine for COVID-19, the demand for bread and bakery products in Ukraine increased by 30-40 percent, when compared with normal this season’s level. However, the same growth has affected other basic foodstuffs. Cereals, for example, from the shelves of supermarkets “sweep” faster.

In the last briefing, in Kiev, the Minister of economic development, trade and agriculture Igor Petrashko has published an optimistic forecast for the current year: the harvest of grain allegedly expected no less 65-68 million tons of grain and it will keep for Ukraine the prestigious status of the exporting country. “Of course, this is less than last year, – said Igor Rostislavovich. – However, the volume is all the same essential to ensure prodovalstonii security in Ukraine and to preserve the status of the great export power.”

As you can see, the government unfolded in the period of a pandemic, the struggle between the Ukrainian bakers and traders took the side of the traders. Foreign exchange earnings, of course, for the Republic’s economy is now extremely important.

Find Vladimir Zelensky the strength to at least slow down the flow “serradella” taking into account not the most comforting weather forecasts regarding early and hot summer? Because if they are justified – the crops will simply burn out.

in Fact, now, after the unusually warm and almost snow-free winter (what winter there was never enough water) for the next harvest are not so hot. Usually on the first million of grain harvested in Odessa region is the largest in area and with a beautiful black – solemnly reports to Kiev in early July. Such million by the end of the harvest, “gathering” and four more. Now the Odessa farmers are in a depressed state.

At the edge of a 2 month drought killed 40% of winter wheat and 80% barley. In southern Bessarabia losses because of the drought, more catastrophic: 95% of winter crops. This figure is announced by first Deputy Chairman of Odessa regional Council Vadim Shkarovsky. According to him, suffered as the Northern areas of the region where it happened to rain.

a poor harvest the hardest hit by the common people, the farmers. Mr. Shkarovsky convinced that this category of his countrymen the government should urgently provide assistance. In particular, farmers need money to compensate their losses, the people did not pay any VAT on all products purchased previously for planting the “cracked” drought land. The government should introduce tax holidays for drought-affected producers and farmers, and review the cost of agricultural land in areas where drought has been greatest.

the head of kiliysky regional Council Pavel Boychenko noted and the first death of a Ukrainian from a poor harvest. 66-year-old farmer Vladimir serdyuchenko of “exemplary” village Shevchenkovo committed suicide. “Vasily Nikolaevich was decent and prudent owner, wrote on Facebook, Mr. Boychenko. – He took the fellow to rent 150 acres of land. Because of the drought, lost the entire crop. In difficult financial circumstances, the farmer has not received from the Ukrainian leadership clear answers about compensation of the lost crop. Driven to despair, the farmer could not survive the disaster…”.

Instead of the actual 3, 7 million tons of crops in 2019 protege Zelensky in the region Maksim Kuts promises in 2020, while the “virtual” 1, 2 million tons. “But this does not mean that our region and Ukraine as a whole will need prodovol’stWii, – assured the Governor of the Odessa journalist “channel 7″. – Of course, we do not exclude this summer manifestations of the effects of the unusually warm winter.”

the food and agriculture organization of the UN FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO) in the mouth of several of its experts repeatedly warned Ukraine and other States: the pandemic coronavirus that’s about to be problems with regular supplies to food stores.

Yet, according to my observations, in the halls of supermarkets, interruptions to the supply of bread and bakery products can be avoided. Help out the food supply. But if Zelensky and his entourage will continue their risky game with “rabid” the export of grain, are possible options.
