90-m to year of life died the Head of the Chuvash Archdiocese of Barnabas. Previously Metropolitan was admitted to the hospital with bilateral pneumonia. He died today, June 1, reported in the Chuvash Archdiocese.
his Eminence Barnabas (Vladimir Kedrov) – Metropolitan of Cheboksary and Chuvash, was born April 21, 1931 in the village High of Ryazan district of Ryazan region. Descended from the ancient priestly race, leading its origin from the seventeenth century. In 1976 he was appointed Bishop of Cheboksary and Chuvash, and in 1984 was elevated to the rank of Archbishop, and in 2001 to the rank of Metropolitan.
the Acting head of the Chuvash Republic Oleg Nikolaev expressed his condolences over demise of Metropolitan and noted that over the years the responsible Ministry, the Metropolitan Barnabas has made a significant contribution to strengthening the authority of the Russian Orthodox Church, cared for the spiritual health of citizens and moral state of Russian society, did much for the revival of temples in the territory of the Republic.
“the residents of the Chuvash Republic will always be grateful to the Metropolitan Barnabas, for his active participation in the life of society, for their tireless labour, which Chuvash Republic was and remains a territory of interethnic peace and consent. His wise words and bright talent preacher earned him deep appreciation and deserved respect. His passing is a great loss for all of us. I am convinced that the memory of him will remain forever in the history of the Republic and will live in the hearts of its inhabitants,” – said Oleg Nikolayev.
On behalf of the acting head of the Chuvash Republic created a government Commission to organize the funeral of Metropolitan Barnabas.
