There is a saying “Spite grandmother frostbitten his ears” – something similar happened with the leadership of the ruling party “law and justice”, which wanted at all costs to hold presidential elections on may 10, 2020. In the spring all the surveys showed that comes from the party acting President Andrzej Duda will receive more than half of the votes and is re-elected in the first round.

However, the pandemic coronavirus mixed card of all – and the opposition candidates who could not conduct an election campaign and the authorities who are faced with the fact that regular elections are held unsafe, and prepare to vote by mail, they do not have time. From this point, the situation on the Polish political scene began to resemble play of the theatre of the absurd.

Recall that the government decided the elections on may 10 not to, recognize them invalid and set a new date with a new election campaign. Since then it’s been three weeks, but the date of the elections and not appointed. All registered candidates became candidates in candidates. And the party got the opportunity to look at the ratings of its nominees and to see if they made a bet last winter, when the campaign had just begun. And eternal are the main opponents of the “Law and Justice” from the party “Civic coalition” came to the conclusion that their candidate but rather the candidate not live up to their expectations.

From this political formation for the presidency nominated by the Vice-speaker of the lower house of Parliament Malgorzata Kidava-Blonska is an experienced politician, besides the great-granddaughter of the President of Poland Stanislaw Wojciechowski (led the country in the years 1922-1926) and Prime Minister Wladyslaw Grabski (led by the Council of Ministers in 1923-1925). In last year’s parliamentary elections Kidava-Blonska got the best individual result in his party, and perhaps it would have been this time. But on March 29, in connection with the announcement in Poland of the mode of the epidemic, she said the abolition of his election campaign and urged poles to boycott the elections on may 10. It is unknown if this led to a drop in its ranking, but by early may she was planning to vote, only 2 percent of respondents research center Ipsos. Simultaneously it became known that 73 percent of the voters of her party plan to follow the recommendation of Kidawa-Blonski and to boycott the presidential elections. Meanwhile, for the incumbent head of state at that time was going to vote, 63% of respondents, which meant his outright victory in the first round.

So the party “Civic coalition” decided to take the opportunity to replace the candidate. May 15, Pani małgorzata alone left to journalists and declared that withdraws the candidacy. Her colleagues already decided what to replace fundamental Kidavo Blogsku. And the choice fell on the young and charismatic mayor of Warsaw rafał Trzaskowski, who just a year ago, he swore that he had no presidential ambitions, and he plans to devote his life to serving residents of the Polish capital.

the Result: in just two weeks Trzaskowski took votes away from the incumbent President and some other competitors, now for him, planning to vote and 21 percent of poles, and for Anidea tune of 35 percent. This means that to avoid the second round will fail, and in it, according to polls of Institute of research Instytut Badań Pollster, the chances of the opponent are almost equal: of 51.32 percent of votes Andrzej Duda and 48.68 percent of Rafal Trzaskowski. And this is only the beginning of the struggle, because the closest possible date for the elections on 28 June.
